Acne Facial Treatments That Work

March 21st, 2009

So I’ve been doing a lot of reading in online forums on different acne products.  Here are the most effective products I could find, based on feedback from people who have used them.

1)Acne Repair Kit from Mario Badescu

This kit comes with 3 products: buffering lotion, drying lotion, and drying cream.

Here’s what people are saying about these products:
-Drying Lotion:  Makes whiteheads and blackheads disappear practically overnight for many people.
-Drying Cream:  Hides blemishes while they’re healing.
-Buffering Lotion:  Eliminates painful under-the-skin pimples (cystic acne) before they come to head, prevents new acne from appearing, gets rid of redness and reduces inflammation.

People are especially loving the drying lotion and buffering lotion, and many are finding that by using the two together they can get rid of any kind of blemish.

Everything I’ve found on this product looks encouraging.  Usually when I do online research on a product I’ll find both positive and negative comments, but I have yet to find anyone bashing this one.  People have nothing but great things to say about it.  Even someone as fussy as Martha Stewart recommends Mario Badescu products!

Apparently, even people who have sensitive skin are finding that MB products don’t irritate their skin like other products do.

Another big plus is the price: the kit only costs $46.  Apparently people are saying it takes forever to use up each container due to the tiny amounts that are required to apply to the skin.  Also, the Mario Badescu website allows returns within 30 days so I really have nothing to lose (other than my acne, that is!).

2)Red / Blue Light Acne Treatment Lamps

These are lamps you can buy and shine on your skin to control acne.  The blue light will kill the bacteria that cause acne, and the red light will help to heal the skin and improve skin tone.

I’ve found medical studies that prove that this method works.  And based on feedback in forums, it seems that many people have found it to be effective to various degrees.  It also matters which particular brand you get as they’re all different.  They come in different frequencies, and some only come with blue light or red light alone.

People are advising not to get the type you have to hold in your hand and shine on your problem areas, but instead the type you can put on the table.  That way you can free up your hands to read or something while you let the lamp work its magic on your face.

Here are the particular brands of acne lamps that many people are finding effective:

Baby Quasar Light Therapy

BlueMD Acne Blue Light Therapy

Verilux ClearWave Deluxe Acne Light

The downside of these lamps is they’re pretty expensive.  However, considering how much money I’ve been spending on various creams and lotions etc., all of which runs out regularly, getting one of these acne lamps may actually save me money in the long run.
I’ve decided to order the Mario Badescu Acne Repair Kit first because it’s a lot cheaper than the lamps.  Also, I’ve found almost all praise and no criticism for this product so it would be the safer option to go with.  I’ll report back the results after using it for a couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
